my hard drive has been infected by trojan files. the main culprit was a warez site. my browser was mozilla firefox. i use mcafee antivirus and spybot s%26d, along with hijack this.
as an alternative, if i use "firefox portable", will my hard drive be susceptible to trojan attacks?
i like warez sites, but am looking for an alternative way of browsing.
Possible for trojans to be downloaded using firefox portable?internet security
Yes, it is possible - no alternative to avoid getting Trojans, except not using the 'net. Anytime you access the Internet, you are opening your PC up for possible infection. That's why you have got to protect yourself. Do you keep your malware programs updated and the virus definitions updated as well? Windows Update, when was the last time you did that?
Are you sure that the culprit was the warez site? Do you download freebies? Music, videos, programs, screen savers, avatars, graphics, etc,... guess what you are probably downloading with the free stuff...? Do you scan everything you download before you open it?
You may like warez sites, but WHERE d'ya think they come from? Stay far away from them, else you'll be spending much time and money repairing your PC.
Oh yeah, don't try it on a MAC - curiosity got to me as well as MAC arrogance. I visited a warez site KNOWING that the chance of my MAC getting infected was practically nil (114,000 PC viruses vs 85 MAC viruses) and tempting the fates, my AV program caught a Trojan downloader.
