How to fix freezing problem?

I have a Dell Insprion 8600 laptop that recently got an 80gb hard drive. I downloaded and installed all essential needs (Spam blockers, security software, videogames, etc.). But while I was browsing online, my Norton Antivirus detected a virus and successfully deleted it. I shut down the computer, and the next day it started to slow down unbearably every 6-7 minutes. It started up fine at normal speed but then it just slowed down immediately. The taskbar isn't responding... the ctrl+alt+del takes like 2 minutes to start and opening files is IMPOSSIBLE! This is very frustrating as I use my laptop to do a lot of my schoolwork and my parents won't let me use their computers for very long.

I dont know if Norton have deleted that virus, but if you are sure that virus was deleted, then the reason for computer slow should be Corrupted or missing registry files when deleting virus..

You can check out this site:

I would assume that Norton as usual didn't get rid of anything.

I would do an online scan using Trend Micro Housecall, and see what it finds, it also has the ability to remove viruses, spyware and malware.
