How to recover lost data of files affected by the Kamasutra/Blackmail Virus. All files got converted

My all word,excel,powerpoint,pdf etc. are giving error on opening and all have got the file size of 1 KB. My computer got affected by the Kamasutra/blackmail virus on 3rd March. I have removed the virus by the Norton Antivirus and now my computer is clean but i have lost all my data. How can i recover my data of all these files. Is there any free software available on the internet which i can download and use it on my computer.

Kindly help me if you have a answer of my problem.

Restoring your computer will not help as the virus could have damaged your restore point as well but you can always give it a go.

As for recovering the data, you would need a good data recovery software and i am not sure if you can get one for free. Do a search using google or ask a computer technician as they usually can perform data recovery operations for you.

Another thing to remember is that this virus delivers its payload on 3rd of every month

You don't say what OS you have, if your using Windows XP you can do a system restore and should bring back your computer and data to where it was before the virus attack. Go to Start, Control Panel, System, then click on System Restore choose a point before the virus, hope this helps
Lap is right .... but make sure your restore point is BEFORE the date you got the virus..
If they are 1 kegabyte, the data is probably not there. Or was just majorly deleted. If you have restore software and know that the documents may possibly be in there, then restore.
