Having trouble getting rid of spyware?

My computer is infected with spyware, and it will not allow me to open my antispyware program. I downloaded a free antispyware program called superantispyware and it too will not open. so i downloaded an antivirus AVG. it wouldnt open. then i got Ad-Aware. it opens, but when i run a scan my pc will just turn off randomly in the middle of the scan.

before doing the adaware scan i uninstalled the avg. i also tried system restore, but it says i have no restore points. i have used system restore a few times before so im not sure if maybe the spyware messed that up too.

i dont know what to do. please help!

This type of virus isn't just a low security risk, it is a very high security risk, annoys you, and frustrates and tries to wreck your computer. Right now, none of my stupid antivirus programs are detecting it. Downloaded and tried Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. Didn't detect anything. But I KNOW there is someone trying to hack my computer right now. The Bloodhound. virus is like a gateway for a hacker. It turned my firewall of, i fixed that, destroyed NIS 2007 (I have it again now, I just downloaded a trial version :( ). i have Avast antivirus, and i tried downloading a keylogger, but every time i do, it says its a virus and tells me to delete it. Unable to connect digital camera to my laptop.?

I am using HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop which came with Windows XP Home edition. Further I am using Yashica (Kyocera) EZ6031 digital camera. Earlier I used to have no problem in plugging and downloading snaps taken from this camera. However today while using it got connected for the first time, then Symantec Antivirus deducted couple of viruses (Trojan Horse %26 W32.Imaut.AY) - both of which were duly quarantined or deleted.

It's not a virus, he did something to the port or connection for the monitor, or he jiggled the tower and something came loose..

The best thing to do is to a) seek professional help or to b) reinstall the OS.

For b) just insert the system restoration disk that came with the PC.

Good choice! McAfee Security 2008 it's the one that I recommend everybody.

Well, in order to install it you need to delete all the Norton's file and registry. There was a problem during the uninstallation of the antivirus, nothing to get worry.

All you have to do is to use a program to delete all the norton's file from your computer. Symantec has an utility to do it.

there is one built in administrator account, but you can enable any other accounts on yuor computer to be administrator accounts.

In XP you can give setup users as a computer administrator account or as a limited accounts. If you are setup as a computer administrator, then you can install and delete software as well as make system setting changes. Limited accounts can only do a few things and cannot install any software. You can easily go into Control Panel/ User Accounts and change any "Computer Administrator" account to a " limited account " type.

I may have to wipe my Hard Drive?

On a friends computer he had been on the net for 2 days without any protection and got flooded with Spyware, Trojans, Malware, PUPS and crap. I downloaded Kaspersky Antivirus, Spybot S/D, and Adaware. With those they found a lot but still has problems, like computer will random restart, the slider is reset to the lowest on the internet options privacy tab, when it should be at medium or medium high, and i keep getting a Windows-No Disk Error message that keeps popping up and I keep cancelling. Type in Windows-No Disk in google search and the first few is the one I get. There are soultions on how to fix that but that is not even half the other problems I get. Is Kaspersky Good? It sounds like one of the better ones now. Since there isn't a lot on the disk I may just wipe it and start over. What do you think?

ok u must have left it on charge to long which burnt the motherboard... i recommend u try to restore to factory settings by pressing f11 when ur comp turns on... otherwise you should try to get a warranty claim and oh dont ever download that anti virus bullcrap it creates major issues on your comp trust me i know this stuff inside out

I installed 360 on my computer and then my system slowed way down and it asks me to accept revocation certificates all the time. When I go into my Yahoo e-mail it asks at least three times before I can access. Any fixes?

Installing 360 would not slow down the comput. Need to go into your control panel. Ya must have accidentally turned something on. Or go into your tools heading on the browser and click on computer options. I got many good answers on here that helped me alot. Good luck to you.

When I go to google.com it takes like 30 seconds to load then it comes up as "This page cannot be displayed." I had my step-dad's brother take a look at my computer, since his job is working with computers, and he found a virus in a "hosts" document. I used the AVG anti virus software to scan my computer for viruses because of the strange activity I noticed when using it. When I opened up IE (Internet Explorer), a popup would show saying "Your system was infected by a dangerous trojan. Note: Your critical files could be lost." Also, when I search on yahoo it says "Error: Your browser has been hijacked by pornography advertising. Please download the latest Antivirus software." This all started when I was on facebook, and I clicked an ad and it took me to a page where loads of porn ads popped up, and I couldn't get them to close. Every since then, it's been saying that I'm infected with trojan viruses. There's about six on there. As I said before, when I used the software, it detected them, and even deleted them, but I am still having the same issues with my internet.

Often times these items cannot be deleted because they are in use in normal windows mode. Try running norton in "safe mode" and see if this removes the remaining infected items. Otherwise, I would run an online virus scanner called housecall to see if it will remove the remaining infections.

Are you referring to the attachments in Yahoo mail? That's not anything that's on your system - that's the anti-virus built into Yahoo mail itself. That does a virus scan on the mail server to make sure the attachment isn't a virus. It's got nothing to do with whatever is or isn't installed on your computer.

Norton is not rubbish, in the 10 years I have been working IT it's had the best track record. We've had virus' come in and disable McAffee from the inside, and don't get me started on AVG. You get what you pay for and antivirus is no different, I've seen countless things slip past AVG. Norton is a CPU hog, I won't deny that, but I have never seen it fail to protect a network.
Here's a pretty easy resolution. All you have to do is to purge all Norton and Symantec files, etc. from your PC.

Do you have Internet Explorer's popup blocker turned on? Click on Tools then popup blocker. Then get Google's toolbar with the best popup blocker around.

I recommend you download spywareblaster. It is free.
If you have an older copy of XP perhaps windows messenger is still turned on. It used to come turned on as default. Right click on My comuter , scroll to manage An interface will open click on "services" then 'services" again to the right a list will appear find "messenger" If its enabled, right click on it and scroll to properties. Another interface comes up Click stop under service status Then under startup type open the dropdown menu and scroll to disabled . Click ok. That will stop most popups without a spyware program.
It may be a virus/spyware etc, certainly sounds like some type of Malware unfortunately.

try this first just take the sides off your system (unplugged) and then clean all the dust out of the fans and power supply using a soft 2 in paint brush, then get it going and download "AVG" and run a full scan, then use your yahoo spy-ware checker (on your task-bar) and run a full scan, then download a copy of CCleaner and run a disk cleanup with it, then defrag your Hard drive, Reboot your system, then do a new restore point.

I got a new laptop yesterday and have tried to put stuff from my old PC on it. I tried to put some programs I backed up on to it, some worked fine, others did not. I downloaded 1 or 2 of the programs I needed, then reinstalled Adobe Premiere and After Effects, then last, added my music. Now, for some reason, I try to download a program (ex: Itunes, Winamp, BitComet) and it'll get to a certain point in the progress and stop, even though previous downloads had worked much better. What might be the problem? A firewall? Should I run my Antivirus program?

run your anti-virus program and try again. pay attention to the download status and note if it is always in the same spot where it breaks. it certainly could be the server shutting down downloads after a certain time limit, but that would be only if you have a really slow internet connection. otherwise, get a download manager at download.com or snapfiles.com. those can probably pinpoint your problem. =]

I downloaded a new antivirus program today...cant remember the name of it now, started with an a though...anyways, after it loads, says it has to reboot computer. So when it tries to reboot, it just keeps crashing, wont fully load. So i try to boot up in safe mode to restore...when i make it into safe mode, it wont let me open restore, says "mytilus.dll" is missing so it cant. My computer said that I was downloading a trojan virus when my system mechanic said that it had an update for me. I didn't think twice about it because there are always updates that pop up for various things on my computer. Then when I tried to download norton for a computer scan, my antivirus said I was downloading yet another trojan. Also when I was on the internet it would change to pages like on ebay that I have never seen before. I can't go to most websites like myspace or send an email. Okay, iam about to throw my laptop out of the window, lately everything on my laptop is closing by itself, from IE to firefox to control panel and so does the system restore, everytime i restart my laptop i go to system restore it shows its off. So i figured i had a virus, i tried over 4 antivirus software from macafee to panda etc and all of them failed during installation, none of the programs made it past the second step and then all the sudden the setup is gone, sometimes even the downloaded icon for the software just disspaears off the desktop, what the hell could be wrong? i cant download any software to check for anything, i even went in safemode. Please advise.

Being the best Antivirus from India is like being the best baseball team from Pittsburgh.

And since it is a PAID application (US$30) you have to compare it with other paid AV's, not freeware AV's.

Therefore you're trying to put Quick Heal in the same category as Kaspersky and NOD32, two of the best in the world... and that's just silly.

I doubt if it even compares to our top free AV's: ( Avast or AntiVir), but how to know because there's no comparisons?

I am unable to use my computer after it had been hit by a virus. Can someone help me?

I have Windows XP. After I downloaded an "ActiveX" something or other, all *h*e*l*l* broke loose on my computer! I panicked and just quickly shut the computer down. Then got back online and downloaded AVG and Spybot and ran them. It seemed to have helped slightly, but still my computer is VERY messed up. I cannot get into "Safe Mode", and my "Active Desk Top" continues to flash off and on. I was able to access Add/Delete Programs (dodging in between flashing desktop) to uninstall AVG and Spybot and reinstalled my original Norton Antivirus. After a forever download, that doesn't work because it "needs" to get online (I hate Norton!). I cannot do anything! I'm a pretty good troubleshooter most of the time, but this--- is causing me to become ill! Help.

also, you can use spybot to remove the activeX. go into advanced mode, then tools %26gt; activex and remove the one that's causing all the issues.

I have a laptop with Windows XP Pro. I only had a free antivirus program installed. My wife recently went to a music download site and the laptop has now been completely hijacked. Almost the same thing happened to my computer. Depending on where your wife went, it could've been just a virus site where they "pretend" to give out music. if you're downloading programs such as Spybot it won't help. sometimes those are fake. since you have mostly no programs on there, try reformating your computer, i reformated mine and it really helps! but remember to back up all of your files. Just keep the antivirus updated and run it once every 2 days or something like that. Also, any files that you believe might be bad, either don't open them or else check them with the antivirus program.

.exe are executional files and are commonly used by computer programs, but they can be viruses. If you downloaded this file from the vendor's website, then it should be safe. If you got it from anywhere else like limewire, edonkey... then don't open it.

I think you've got too much. Switch to just Spyware Doctor and Spybot-Search and Destroy. These programs are the best anti-spyware programs out there, in my opinion (and they're free). As for anti-virus, try switching to AVG. AVG is a lot more efficient and more user-friendly.

Open limewire, go to tools%26gt;options%26gt;advance%26gt;firewall option and untick "System Startup -" i.e. to start when windows start.

Reboot and then try to uninstall from "add/remove program".

If it fails, it is serious problem. Did you downloading software from untrusted source instead of limewire website. If it was, the program you have install may contain virus, spyware, backdoor etc.

MAYBE TRY SYSTEM RESTORE.........
It could still be running in the background as a hidden process. Try going to your task manager (ctrl - alt - delete) and find a process that looks unfamilular to you. Use common sense, and look for letters that would look abnormal. Like lmwr.exe, lw.exe, etc...

On to your problem. I dont think its a virus. I had something similar happen once and as near as I could tell windows basicly hicuped and 'lost' the file, but it was still physically on the hard drive. I was able to find it but couldnt remove it through windows. I found some security program that was able to find and remove the file, but I couldnt tell you what the program was called now.

But really if its not taking up any space and it only shows up during a virus scan just leaving it alone shouldnt hurt anything.

I have a free version of ZoneAlarm running on my computer. I did have Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition downloaded but since I installed ZoneAlarm I get a warning box flashing up that AntiVir cannot be found or has been modified or destroyed. I am unable to remove the AntiVir software from my control panel Add/Remove but it is still listed on there. when your pc starts keep tapping F8 key, a menu will appear with some options, choose safe mode

start the pc under safe mode, delete the file and then restart.

Did you try running a spy scan? Try running it in safe mode also. Reboot and immediately press F8 until you get to a safe mode or safe mode screen.
Update your AV and run it. I would get Adaware and update it and run it.

Download the Norton Free Trial to see if that detects anything, and isn't downloading mp3's illegal. That's one reason to not download mp3's form the internet.
You did not mention the operating system. If it is windows, find out where the stupid thing is stored, then boot up in safe mode/command prompt, and navigate to the directory and delete it there. It probably altered your registry. You will have to take care of that also.

Thing is...none of my usual methods of removal work. I can't track it down on the computer for manual removal...it automatically blocks every major antivirus site (Symantec, Norton, AVG)...it won't let me download HijackThis, which is a key program for locating and dealing with such viruses...

alright, it seems to me you at least know what your talking about, so i think you'll figure it out after this tip.

If the virus is blocking norton / other sites from scanning, that means that there a virus process running in the background of your system at all times.

Press ctrl+alt+delete, figure out which one it is (the hard part), right click that process and end the process tree (any other ones that rely on that process).

This will allow you to use norton or avg.

you might want to check out trend micro's free housecall online and see if that works (a very good program)
